We all know that dental care is important, but your children may not think so. If you have stubborn kids, it may be hard to get them to really create a habit of creating a good oral hygiene routine. For most parents, teaching kids to brush their teeth without complaint is one of the biggest challenges.

So, to prevent visiting a dentist for unnecessary dental work, here are some of our childrens dentist-approved tips on how to inspire your children to brush their teeth every night.

Let your child pick out their toothbrush and toothpaste

You want to create excitement for your child when it comes to brushing their teeth twice a day. One of the easiest methods that will help you do this is to have them be in charge of picking out their “dental accessories.” They’ll feel independent and excited to use their new goodies — just make sure not to use fluoride toothpaste if your child is under age two (unless your doctor has given you approval).

Have your child brush their teeth during their favorite television show

If you couple brushing their teeth with watching their favorite show, it is less likely that your child will fight you every night over brushing their teeth. Simply incorporate this into a part of their routine and they won’t even notice it was something they didn’t like beforehand.

Put on their favorite song, and don’t stop brushing until it stops

Make a dance party out of brushing their teeth! Choose their favorite song — make sure it is about two and a half minutes long — and brush, brush, brush until it is over. Don’t forget to add in some dance moves and make it a party. Make sure you both do it together or even include your entire family. Who knows, doing this may make your child even look forward to this daily routine.

If you have a stubborn brusher in your household, make sure to try these three fun and easy tips to get them to brush.
